Why String and Dental Floss Frequently Fail
String and dental floss are woven fibers designed to be pliable. When you wrap string around your finger and pull it snug enough to mark with a pen, the tension stretches the material by 2mm to 4mm.
Because a single US ring size difference is only 0.8mm of diameter, using stretched string almost always causes buyers to purchase rings that are 1 to 2 full sizes too large.
